The Eyes Have It #GlueNGlitter {DIY Halloween Tutorial}

Today’s post might have you singing a popular tune all day. <cue the music>

I always feel like somebody’s watchin’ meeeee.

But you’re not here for karaoke, you’re here to see me make a very fun, easy and cheap project for your front porch.

I was inspired a few days ago by this photo over on Pinterest, so when I got the opportunity to create an Autumn craft for Elmer’s #GluenGlitter, I was stoked to get to channel my inspiration into something fab.

You can see my entire shopping trip over on Google+ for the supplies I needed to buy. They are also listed below.

The Eyes Have It {Project Supplies}

  • Elmer’s Foam Board (White)
  • Elmer’s Glue Spots (1/2 inch, permanent)
  • 2 sheets of black cardstock
  • Thick-media scissors
  • 2 different sized circles to use as templates for your eyes
  • Black thin marker

I gather up all my supplies, put on my crafting playlist on iTunes (AKA: Obscene amounts of Lady Gaga)

I use my 2” circle punch to cut out 24 eye balls for my 12 pairs of eyes.

If you don’t have a 2” circle punch, don’t fret. Do the old school method: Fold a paper in half, cut in a semi-circle and you have yourself a circle.

I used a large apothecary jar to trace my 6 pairs of large eyes and a smaller vase to trace the 6 pairs of smaller eyes.

Make sure the center of the eyes touch so you can just cut out each set rather than each eye. Make sense? Next is the hard part- cutting through the foam board. I tried using a x-acto type knife, and that was just not fun. So, I used my heavy duty scissors to cut through the foam board. My hand was aching, but it only took me about 1-2 minute per set, so maybe 25 minutes overall.

Then I went outside and looked at my porch. I love my wreath, but yeah…my porch needs a little more somethin’.

I place my eyeballs in random spots. I moved a few around as needed. Each pair took me about 6 glue spots + 2 for the pupils= 8 each x 12 eye sets= 96 glue spots total, so about half a box worth.

Then once I had my eyeballs where I wanted them, I added the pupils. I made some looking up/down/sideways/cross eyed/etc. Be creative!

This is what I ended up with. I wasn’t happy, so I dug out my Halloween stash from last year. I bought some stuff on clearance at the dollar store.

Ahhh, much better!

Confession: These still creep me out from far away even though I KNOW I put them there. Sigh.

It might not be the best porch ever, but it cost me little time & resources, which is definitely what I aim for when doing crafts. The Elmer’s glue spots even helped keep my entire spider web in place, and it is super windy where I live. Still up! Those glue spots are strong.

Here are some night shots (I went outside in my Glee-jamas for these shots, FYI).

I absolutely adore the orange glow the lights give my porch. I only wish I could have found glow in the dark poster paint so I could have painted the Elmer’s foam board with it so my eyeballs could glow. Overall, I am so happy with my porch, and I hope it will attract some trick-or-treaters this year.
