I have a breakfast related confession to make.
I can drink a soda with my breakfast everyday. It’s bad. I shouldn’t drink soda for every meal. I know this.
My husband, on the other hand, is orange juice obsessed. Not I. That stuff is too tart for me unless it’s in a mimosa.
Typically, drinks really don’t offer much nutritional value minus the good ones that have vitamins and minerals. That’s why I was pretty nervous about heading to Walmart to try out Silk Fruit&Protein. At only $3.78, it’s a affordable alternative to orange juice, coffee house lattes and $1.25 sodas from the vending machine. Which is my vice about 3 times a day/$3.75 a day. Ouch.
It’s a fruity drink with 5 grams of protein per serving. This made me nervous because the thought of protein in my fruity drink makes me think of a chunky, icky consistency. Like a protein shake.
Which was not the case. Yay. Yay. It was actually pretty tasty and I sipped it down really quickly. I ended up buying the Silk Fruit&Protein in the strawberry banana flavor, and I’ve used it as a way of adding more protein to my usual egg beaters and bacon breakfast. I have cut back on my usual soda/juice/coffee drinking in favor of drinking this. Also? I am a little fuller drinking this with my breakfast than I am when I have breakfast along side a diet soda.
Here’s a picture of the caloric/nutritional information. I do hope they will make a lighter version of this for people like me who are trying to stay low calorie. I think Silk will. But other than that, the main selling point to me is the protein and even the fiber in every 8 oz. glass.
I like to put my drinks in fancy glasses to sip on while I blog. This was gone in about 3 minutes. So good. And notice it’s not bright pink or red- it looks pretty natural.
And here you can see that the consistency is smooth- no funky texture in this product.
My husband really enjoys it, too. He usually sticks to orange juice, but he did think that the protein was a good enough reason to switch to this instead. Daniel and I are big on protein because it helps us stay fuller longer.
Silk Fruit&Protein has been an easy and healthy breakfast swap that we will continue in our household. I have some ideas on how to make this into a smoothie by adding more fruit, so I love that it’s versatile and affordable product for my family to enjoy. My only wish, again, is that it were slightly lower in calories and sugar. But overall, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
What are your favorite breakfast beverages? Would you try Silk Fruit&Protein?
