Baby steps.
Good afternoon lovely people! How are you doing? First off, I have some news…you may have to update your Google Reader or other blog subscription service.
This blog (Monica Wants It) will now be located at www.monicawantsit.com I can only imagine the kind of traffic that is going to end up on my blog, and they’re going to be sorely disappointed when they find my little rants and raves. Oh well. I knew when picking out my blog name that it was a bit on the, um, saucy side. Yeah, saucy.
Furthermore, www.monicabenavidez.com is my “professional” website/blog thingy. It is the web address I am advertising when I am out at craft shows and such in the community. The blog/website will be similar to this one except I am going to probably be focusing a bit more on local stuff, my Etsy stores, and stuff like that. I would love it if you checked it out, but yeah, I had to separate my worlds a bit to maintain a more professional image of sorts when in the community.
Now that we got that over with, let’s get onto the post! Yay!
I haven’t done much DIY stuff in MONTHS because basically I don’t have room to store more shit. I don’t even want to show you our closets- it’s insane. If I stare at them too long I just want to cry, sell a kidney, and a buy mansion. Seriously. But now and then, I come across an item I have to have. I cannot live without it. Here is THAT item for me that is kinda, sorta recent. I bought it in March, and haven’t done anything with it but let it collect dust. Classy.
Isn’t it GORG?! Ok, I know. The painting is not nice at all, whatsoever, I got that. But look at those pretty ornate details that make you weak in the knees.
Still not impressed? Ok, fine, how about the price tag:
Yup, FOUR dollars. $4.00!!! Thank you Full Circle Antiques in Beeville, Texas.
SOLD! My mom was like, “WTF are you going to do with that?” I really do think those were her exact words. 99% sure. Now you know where I get it from.
I guess I don’t know what I want to do with it because there are a couple of things I would like to do with it. Maybe you all can help me out with some ideas.
Idea #1 is to spray paint the painting a black color and get a piece of vinyl in order to make a sign for my booth at craft shows…kind of like this one I saw at Goliad Market Days in March. I would also spray paint the frame either a white glossy color or Watermelon (hot pinkish) by Krylon.
However, I do already have a banner that I got for free from VistaPrint. So, right next to their sign I love, is their hair flower display, which leads me to option B- buy some chicken wire and use the frame to display earrings, necklaces, etc.
My other idea is my most favorite- spray paint the frame a glossy white (probably using the 97-cent spray paint from Wal-Mart) and buy chalkboard paint (probably the Rustoleum kind in the can) to make it into an awesome chalkboard like this one I found on Notes From the Heartland:
The benefit to this would be that I could use it at my craft shows/market days to advertise sales/specials AND I could also use it at work/home offices.
Now, if the frame was bigger, I would totally use it like Mrs. Limestone did. Ever since I saw how she used an ornate frame, I have been obsessing over finding a frame large enough to frame a TV for our master bedroom. If we had a TV in the master bedroom, that is. But if I used the frame I found for $4, I’d need like a 13” TV and even THAT may be pushing it.
Alright folks, there ya have it. What would you do with my $4 frame? Any ideas I may have missed?
