For the past 2 BlogHer conferences, I’ve sat around on Twitter reading how much fun people were having at BlogHer. How many awesome people they got to meet. How many cocktail parties they were attending.
And I felt like I would never get to be part of the atmosphere and awesomeness that is BlogHer.
Why?
Well, I’m no Dooce and I am no Baby Rabies. I am just me. Monica from San Antonio, Texas who lives in Small Town, Texas and blogs for about 200 followers (give or take) on any given day. People on Twitter kept encouraging me to buy my ticket and get my chunky butt to BlogHer.
So, I am. I’m going to BlogHer! <---- Pretend Oprah just said that and you’ll fully gauge my enthusiasm.
It’s about 7 months away, but lemme tell ya, I am so freaking excited. I hope I’ll get to meet people that I interact with only on the interwebs or that I read in my Google Reader. But as with anything in life, I am a bit nervous. What if I come off as awkward? Insecure? Or heaven forbid I am STILL not skinnier. I would be mortified. I want BlogHer to live up to what everyone else makes it seem like- a fantastic opportunity to learn, network and party.
And it’s in San Diego, which I’ve always wanted to go to. On my way to San Jose in 2009, the plane stopped in San Diego and I just remember looking at the beautiful city in awe. Sundresses, sandals and lots of cute jewelry are on my mind, for sure. But I feel like I need to truly grasp what BlogHer is about- improving bloggers. I know my blog is small, but I’d like to think it’s mighty. My topics are vast and my emotions can run high and low…but that’s me. Random, emotional and wanting to write. However, I feel that now that I am plunking down money and time into going to BlogHer, I need to improve my blogging. Over the next 2 months, this blog will be having about 3-4 posts a week ranging from health/fitness to crafting to DIY/home décor. And maybe a random rant thrown in there for good measure. Also coming up is a mini-blog makeover, and I hope to create a snazzy logo to create a better identity for this humble blog.
Put what’s the point in all that if I don’t help others grow as well, right? My other focus will be commenting more on other blogs (especially small ones- * fist pump *) and networking with people via Twitter/blogs. So, please, feel free to contact me whenever & however. I’d love to meet new bloggers who are in the same position I’m in.
In other words- it’s time to take this little hobby to a slightly more elevated level.
Alright, back to clothes. Here’s a little inspiration board I created to motivate me to keep exercising and eating healthy for a fitter, happier, trimmer me at BlogHer 2011. If you’re attending as well, please leave me a comment or e-mail me at MonicaWantsIt@gmail.com or tweet at me- @MonicaBenavidez I would love to meet as many of you as I possibly can. Let’s network!
Let the countdown begin! Have you ever been to any blogging conferences? Any pointers for a newbie?
