I know it’s technically not jingle bell time yet, but today I am going to talk about holiday comforts. You know those things that make your heart warm as you reminisce and think about your loved ones during the holidays. Those funny moments playing family board games after a big Thanksgiving meal, or the smell of grandma’s kitchen filled and of course those twinkling lights on a Christmas tree.

Just typing those words put a gigantic smile on my face. I treasure my holiday comforts. Now that I am married and have a home with my husband and dog, I’m trying to create our own holiday comforts. Some of it has to do with food, some of it décor and some of it with family, but they all lead to happy memories and moments.

Comfort Food:

I think the biggest tradition in our house involving food has to do with Christmas morning breakfast. There’s something refreshing about getting up on such a special day and preparing a meal for family—especially if you have house guests. Something I’d like to make one day is a scrumptious Christmas buffet. Take a look at this example:

Look at ALL THAT FOOD. So gorgeous, and there’d be something for everyone to enjoy before opening up beautifully wrapped presents.

And of course, you can’t have holiday comfort food without a good pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream:

Comfort Décor:

I know, that kind of sounds like an odd concept. How can décor be comforting? It can be, I promise. Well, to me it’s all about bringing elements of my childhood along with my husband’s + a dash of our own new traditions to create holiday décor that is very us. Here are some examples of how I try to do that:

Unique stockings for all the members of our family.

Decorate the outside of our house to create an inviting entrance to our home.

Personalized touches (even if we’re the only 2 people in the house…)

People Comforts:

You gotta include family and friends, of course! It’s comforting to know that for a few days our family/friends can gather, laugh, eat and put aside life’s woes to just enjoy each other. Though I love presents as much as any person, my loved ones are truly the best gifts a girl could ever ask for.

My adorable nephew. He was such a gift to our family. He is so loved.

An amazing mom and little brother (yes, her dog= my little brother). My mom is the most amazing woman I know. LOVE YOU!

And my husband, who is my comfort year round. I am blessed to be with him every day of this beautiful life. Love you Schmoopy Poo!

What are your favorite holiday comforts? Anything special you’re looking forward to with the upcoming holidays? I look forward to harassing, forcing taking lots of cute pictures of my little Pee Wee pie. Open-mouthed smile

And not to end on a sad note, but a holiday comforts post wouldn’t be complete without honoring my grandma and dad. My grandma passed away 12/24/2006 and my dad passed away 12/25/2000 (yes, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day). I am sad on those days because I miss them, God do I miss them, but I also celebrate their lives that day and remember what truly matters in life. And in that, I find comfort.
