Wild About Andrew!

My sister-in-law Jodie is having a baby boy in August, so her baby shower is this Sunday, July 12th, and I am one of the hostesses. My duties are invitations, favors, cupcakes, decor, and drinks. I can do it all folks! When Jodie and I talked about her baby shower decor she made 3 things VERY clear:

1.) No honeycomb centerpieces. For people like Daniel who don’t know what that is, here’s an example:

stork

Heinous isn’t it? I think so, and so do millions of other Americans, trust me. Yet they still sell such ugly centerpieces at places like Dollar Tree, Party City, Hobby Lobby, etc. <insert frowny face>

2.) No baby blue. We know it’s a boy, no need to go there.

3.) Animals and polka dots are a must. However, no cheesy looking animals.

So, with those guidelines in mind I set out to start creating her invitations. Graphic design is a LOVE of mine. I love creating/designing and rarely will I buy anything already made in stores where I just have to fill in the blanks. You know the invites I am referencing right? Yeah, those. Not my fave.

Here are her invitations:

Here’s the panel. The invitations look MUCH nicer in person because in the pictures you can’t really see it’s printed on pretty metallic linen paper. Gorgeous! I had this paper left over from our wedding invitations, and I was more than happy to use it on the shower.

Next up are the centerpieces! Since the honeycomb centerpieces were not an option (shucks!), we began thinking about great centerpiece ideas. Again, I knew I needed to stick to animals, polka dots, and not too baby.

I decided on 2 different types (primarily because I can’t make up my mind…ever). One is TALL and one is short.

Here’s the tall centerpiece:

Here is the short centerpiece:

And here is a picture of all 8 of them ready for their big debut on Sunday:

Directions on how to make each centerpiece will be in a separate blog post later today.

And last night I also decided to do safari/animal themed napkin rings. Completely unnecessary, they’re going to end up in the trash, but I don’t care. It’s all about the details!

Napkin ring tutorial AND templates (yes, FREE templates!) is also coming up in the next few days.

I have quite a bit more to do for her shower, and I plan to share all of it with you all in the next few days. I hope Jodie loves it!
