Organized Inspiration- The Bedroom

Last month I created an inspiration board for our bedroom, and after much thought and a closer look at our inventory, I decided I had to throw that idea out the window. It’s beautiful, yes it is, but we don’t really have anything to, um, match. And I set the budget at $250 or less, if possible, so I figured it’d be best to use what we had and take it to another level. A more posh, refined, romantic, chic level. I am buying some new things for the bedroom, but most of it will be madeover from Goodwill or repurposed from our wedding leftovers. :-P

Here’s the inspiration- picture black/white/gray/red colors, a few patterns (damask, stripes, and trellis), and hopefully you can envision my dark, romantic idea. I chose the colors based off this framed art that Daniel bought me back in March. I love it!

So, here’s what we put together from various sites/stores:

Duvet set is from SmartBargains.com, next up is an Umbra frame you can find at Kohls.

The Beetlejuice-striped bedroom set is super expensive, and I can’t even remember which website I got the picture from. Does anyone remember Beetlejuice? I loved that show/movie. I was having the most difficult time finding striped fabric like that, and after googling “Beetlejuice costume fabric” I found exactly what I needed. For $10 a yard. Not gonna happen. Luckily, the Wal-Mart in town got Halloween fabrics in, and they had it! Wahoo! $2.44 a yard.

The 2 center images are from the Decor Pad galleries. What I love about the picture on the left is the black/white striped rug. I can’t find anything like that at all online. Have you seen anything like that? I may have to just make it. I don’t know how, but surely there’s a way! The right image looks dark, yet bright. I love the black walls against the crisp white linens. And aren’t the lamps fabulous? Yes, they are, you know they are. One day I will be able to paint a wall, one day. A lovely reader of mine suggested using fabric to cover the wall- it’s an option I am now exploring. We’ll see how it goes!

Onto the bottom row, another Umbra frame, but this time it is from Target. We have one like it that I bought many months ago, and I truly do like it…with the exception of one huge issue. The ribbon is attached to the glass with screws. Well, Daniel and I put the pictures in and screwed the 2 pieces of glass together with the ribbon. A day later there were cracks in the glass around the screws. Maybe we did it too tight, who knows, but yeah, not cool. I’ll take a picture of that and show you all later. The last 2 images in row 3 are also from Decor Pad. I LOVE the bedding and that red pillow. I have been searching night and day for a red lattice/trellis patterned fabric like the red pillow, and I have had no luck. Seriously, if you’ve seen something like that, please help a girl out!

Now onto the bad news. Our master bedroom is 10x11 plus a closet. I’m sure some of you have bathrooms bigger than our master bedroom. It’s so small, we have a FULL size bed. And a dog that sleeps with us on it. THREE of us have to sleep on that bed night after night. It’s no wonder I am always so sleepy. Anyway, we have a dresser/mirror + a bed= crowded. I wish we could have a chest or a chair in there, but it’d be insanely crowded. We rearranged the bedroom about 3 weeks ago, and unfortunately the new set-up is rather awkward, but it was awkward before, too. Let me show you the new arrangement.

As you see, I can easily use my forehead to close/open the bedroom door. Or my ponytail. Or a stray hair…I am THAT close to the door. And Daniel doesn’t have much space between the dresser and bed to move around on his side. Another issue- the bed is centered on the entire wall, however, when you look at it, it doesn’t look centered because the door throws it off. You know, since it’s not a seamless wall. It sucks, doesn’t it? I wonder who creates/designs these apartments- they make no sense and are not conducive to my home decor ideas.

But, like always, I will make it work! And if you, my lovely/faithful/beautiful readers have seen that red fabric used for the red pillow, please let me know.

And if you have any ideas/finds/thoughts about our master plan for the master bedroom, let me know! I love hearing from you all. Smooches!
